You're right. Not every small business has yet mastered the early 21st century. At this point it's a choice. There are several good systems designed specifically for the practice.
My massage place has NOT "mastered the tech of 10 years ago"; they don't understand search priority order. Place like that, my first -- and major -- criterion is massage therapist I want. But I can't search on that first -- I must pick a date, see if she's available. That's too much work, so I call to make appointments. If I could see when she's available, I'd pick dates/times. So they wasted effort setting up the appointment system and don't save staff time. Massage therapists agree, of course -- so the system annoys customers and staff.
Dana, Quite right, we are still in the somewhat nauseating Hype phase, with actual adoption of acceptable offerings that solve real problems still to come. I'm not sure the tech industry will ever resist indulging in these bouts of over-excitement. It's particularly acute when it follows a downturn, as in the present case.
