I think you are missing the whole independent (we are sick of politics) vote. They are swayed by their wallet and inflation and for some reason don't care about democracy. Unfortunately, logic persuades no one.
Then what happened in 2016? Democrats knew well enough who Trump was back then and yet a lot of them stayed home and some even voted for Trump — and that was an election with the Supreme Court very clearly on the line
