Will someone please ask Tim Keane why he is not enforcing the 90" per acre of trees for every zoning category in the Atlanta Tree Protection Ordinance? It is happening. Just look around you. We are moving to a city that looks more like NY City. I was told by the Senior Arborists that they don't have the power in the current law to enforce this provision. What? It is there, but who is telling the Arborist Department not to enforce the law?

If you don't believe me. Take a look - just about anywhere. Look at the multi-family housing along the Beltline. Look at the commercial areas.

This will get us in trouble with our federal stormwater consent agreement and as the preceding article states, will turn areas in the city into slums with no green space. Check it out for yourself.

I have shared this information with several council members, with no results. We need new leadership at the top, an Environmental Department separate from the Planning Department and a commitment to maintain our tree canopy. Soon is not soon enough. Here comes the Climate Crises. We need trees and green space.
